Thanksgiving Photo Card Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: My mother is LIVID with me....?

we have a horrible relationship to begin with, which is why I moved 2,000 miles away from her.... But, she just realized that the Christmas card I sent out last year was a photo shopped picture of my brother when he was arrested a few days before Thanksgiving last year. What are some other creative ideas to use a mug shot for? He got a DUI, all I added we're some elf ears and made the nose a bit more red.... COME ON!  more

Resolved Question: Someone has a Xmas present for me and I don't want it. Now what?

My husband and I (his third, my second marriage that is) brought gifts to all of our children/grandchildren. Our children are over 21+ . His child (married with kids) was on an extended vacation for 4 weeks around thanksgiving. When we went to the house they had nothing for us not even a card because they "had no time". Yet while helping cook the meal (plus i brought a main course) these items that they bought while on vacation kept being shown to me. His child told him in confidence that they had no time to shop and would get us something later. (I would have been happy with a card and some photos of the grandkids) My children took time and effort and care in choosing gifts for us that were things we like and enjoy, (even though 1 is having financial difficulty) Next tidbit that comes down the pike(his child) is that we will have to wait awhile or our gifts because their credit cards are totally max'd and they can't afford anything. Maybe in Feb. I do not want a gift from this person. I feel very awkward about it . I would rather ignore the whole thing. I have been avoiding this person because I dont want to deal with it I would prefer the whole thing went away and we just go forward. Any suggestions on how to do that? The credit cards were max'd buying 1500.handbags exp watches etc. I am not being petty. I don't need a gift. Actually I'm the giving type I like to give and feel awkward receiving gifts unless its something small around Xmas. I am praying that the people will forget about it and not mention anything about it because I would like to see his grandchildren whom I love very much and have bags of Valentines gifts waiting for them . Mac- I think that sounds good. Deep down I knew that was the correct answer but I was trying to wish the whole episode away:) Thanks everyone Howie- Yes that's right people dont owe gifts. This is my whole prob. they THINK they owe me a gift. I dont WANT a gift and I dont want them to mention it. And i was more hurt that the person's father (my guy)was so far down on their priority, that they didnt even think about him. The person is very selfish and I am seeing that more every day. BUt no I dont expect anything I dont want anything and I am not owed anything. The prob is that as soon as we go there Im gonna get the whole oh i owe you a gift from xmas so here. I told my hubby I dont want anything- to tell them that -so I dont have to experience this whole uncomfortable thing. IDK I guess I am hurt for my husband. It doesnt bother him as much because he wasnt in his childrens life very much until I encouraged him to make amends. Maybe he knew better than me.  more

Resolved Question: Do you think they should have made these things?

Of Kurt Cobain (RIP) Like the book Kurt Cobain Journals, and the new book witch was made last year called Kurt Cobain Unseen, with a lot of little personal things, in it, like his art certificate, and drawings again, and photos, and an audio interview with Kurt, and a thanksgiving card he drew for the guys in the band, they where all duplicated, I think It was kinda of wrong for them to put all this in book forum, Do you think they should have done that?  more

Voting Question: Is it crossing a line if my BF accepted friends with a 17year old on Facebook?

he asked her if the photo was taken in our apartment...she answered then he must have asked her something about thanksgiving (this happened in november)... and he answered ...and it ended..she first replied with "helloooo!! long time no talking!!" why is he getting his kicks out of talking to a minor? why a i not enough? it should be noted that i broke up with him over her early on and he cried his way back. i found out he gave her his business card before i got to the apartment! he claimed it was to help me bc her grandfather works at a major studio ...and he was just being social to Help Me out bc i was late...but then after i was upset about it one of them facebooked the other and he accepted! is this crossing a line? we we re living together for g-d's sakes! whatever it is how do i deal with it now?!  more

Resolved Question: Found out my dad has been cheating on my mom, and that he is bisexual. What do I do?

My dad gave me his old MAC laptop a while back. Well I finally got the hang of it and am starting to go through it and delete his stuff on it and it turns out he had it connected to his blackberry and iphone, etc. Which means all of his e-mails copy themselves and go to all three places, along to his current computers. I have been getting duplicates all this time of all of his e-mails he has been receiving and sending for the past year and half I have had the computer and he didn't realize it, and neither did I till now. I think he forgot to turn that off. If that whole process makes sense. Well anyway I was going through the other day and deleting all of his e-mails and not paying any mind to what I was deleting, cause it wasn't any of my business, until one opened up on accident and I was caught off gaurd. It was to some weird Shemale site. Once I started looking closer at what I was deleting it turned out a lot of my dad's e-mails were to confirmations for "Thank you for using our escort service," signing up for this adult friend finder website, etc. There are hundreds of e-mails like this. There are also several subscriptions to paid websites, like over 10 where he has to pay between $18 and $70 a month to subscribe to them. My parents aren't rich. They have always struggled. And I used to help my parents go through there bills a few years ago and sort them out and I always rememberd asking my dad "What does ccbill.com stand for?? And he would never answer me. There would be tons of charges for ccbill.com listed but he would never tell me. Guess what ccbill.com stands for? It is what all of these porn and fetish sites use to coverup on the credit card bills so no one knows what you actually pay for. Which means my dad has been doing this for several years. I'm so mad I don't know what to do and I don't want to hurt my mom. And in one e-mail to this woman he sent back and forth, around Thanksgiving, she kept thanking him for all the "presents she had received throughout the year?" what does that mean? That he sends her stuff? My parents have been married for 29 years this June. I never knew. My mom I don't think knows. And it turns out going through this my dad, after I logged onto one of his websites he created with the friend finder things, is bisexual. He is claiming to be a couple years younger and is saying he is bisexual. It isn't a joke. The e-mails date a couple of years back. There are even e-mails where he tells women and escorts to come to the house when he knows my mom will be at work. What do I do? He doesn't know I know??? It is creepy to know that there are people that have been in my parents bed and in my house that have seen my photos. And they know he is married. He tells them "Not today, my wife is here. Not today I have to do something with my son, etc." And he has answered ads on craigslist too. He has even gone to visit my mom where she works and when he has gotten bored found an escort to keep him occupied. He has clearly done it a couple of days before Christmas and Thanksgiving, days which should be spent with family. Times we thought he was working. I mean do you think my mom knows and this is why she works as far away as she does? Why she took a job as far away as she did? They seem happy. They don't argue. They talk regularly. They kiss, they hug. They agree on everything. You would NEVER know. They just work far apart. I just wonder if my mom has a blind eye. My mom works 3 hours away and so they see eachother on weekends, which I think is how my dad has been able to pull this off. My dad had also travelled several months out of the year for a lot of their relationship. I am married now and don't live at home, but I never saw any hint of this. If my mom did she never let on. So what do I do? Say nothing and act like nothing is wrong? Delete the e-mails? Or keep them as evidence down the road? Confront my dad? I can't just ask my mom, that seems like something my dad should do, right? My grandma, my dad's mom, has always suspected my dad of this. Gut feeling I guess. And it turns out she was right. She has been ostracized from the family for it because we all thought she was crazy. My parents seemed happy. So do I go to her? I am just so confused, and my husband doesn't know what to do either. His parents are like the happiest couple you would ever meet. Please help. Thanks in advance.  more

Voting Question: I'm really scared that my dad saw a picture of me smoking!?

It was halloween, of course i was going to hang out with my friends. So i went over to his house, we ran around the neighborhood, and after that we went back to his house. He lives with his grandparents, and they were going to bed. My friends room is across the house, it's a huge room above the garage. And we wanted to try smoking. I've always been the kind of guy who thought smoking was bad, and i think it is. Well we took pictures of each other smoking. I have no clue why, but it was funny. We wanted to show people how funny it looked how my friend was smoking a cigarette dressed up as the joker. And on thanksgiving, my family got tired of looking at the same pictures on our digital photo frame so i swapped the memory cards. And i forgot that our pictures were on there, with the rest of our 900 other pictures. And it's been running day and night since Thanksgiving! I'm home alone and i walked passed it and saw the pictures of me and my friend, and i panicked and i ripped out the memory card and switched it back. If my dad finds out i am going to be in so much trouble. I only tried it once, and i won't do it again. But if he did see those pictures, then he's going to think that i've been smoking for a long time. I've just always had a good relationship with my dad, i don't want to ruin it now because of a stupid picture! I'm only 15, and so is my friend.  more

Resolved Question: My baby boy was born on Thanksgiving. What do you think of the name?

Weighing in at 7lbs 9oz. and 20in. His name is Edward Valencio John. We call him Eddie. Edward is the name that came to mind when he was born. Valencio is a form of Valentine and Valentina that I found. Valentine was my son's name, who was stillborn on Valentines Day 19 years ago. My daughter is named Julia Valentine. Valencio was also my mother's surname, and even though I am no longer in touch with her I wanted to give my son something from her. John is for my son who passed on 20 years ago. His name was Brody James. I wanted a name like James but not the same, and John seemed to fit the card. I am so happy he is finally here. Here is a picture that I thought was just to beautiful to hide: http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq12/mady1setta/ournewbabyboy.jpg For me the photo represents a new start. And after all I have been through I am so thankful for it. Edit: my daughter is named Julia Valentina. I put an "e" at the end instead of an "a". Edit again: My son's name was Valentino, not Valentine. I am sorry, just a little disoriented!  more

Resolved Question: Best poses for Christmas pictures... we are a family of 5 (with 5, 4 and newborn) Need Pose ideas... please!?

I'm about to give birth, and with thanksgiving and other family get togethers coming up here in the next several weeks, I want to take advantage of the extra hands that will be around to take our family photo (that I will use to send out for christmas cards). I want to know what poses would look (and work) best for our family. We have three girls (ages 5, 4 and a newborn) as well as my husband and myself. Give me your ideas!! We will have nice, non-clashing outfits.... the colors may or may not be of traditional red christmas theme... and I'm open to outdoor photos because we live in a warm climate, taking outdoor photos is not too bad as long as we will not be outside for more than an hour. Thank you for your help, and I'm excited to see what pose ideas you have for my new family of 5! :) oh- please give examples with websites.... I need visual examples to show the photo taker!  more

Resolved Question: Are your kids' grandparents fair to all the grandchildren?

My parents are both deceased and I was an only child. My only aunts and uncles are elderly and live far away and don't really know my children, though I do my level best to keep in touch and send photos of the kids and cards and pictures from them so they feel like the kids are part of their lives. All these aunts and uncles used to remember me at birthdays and Christmas, but they claim they have too much going on with their own grandchildren to do anything for their dead siblings' grandchildren. My in-laws coordinate with my sister-in-law to get her twins things like a Fisher Price house with all the people and accessories for their birthdays. For my kids they have always tried to get away as cheap as possible and put little thought into it. I talked to my mother-in-law once about trying to help me out since my kids have only one set of grandparents while their cousins have two and she said, "Your kids will just have to accept that your dad was an alcoholic and died." Nice. So now I am in the position of always filling in the gap of gifts and experiences they should have had with my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles that I had growing up, that they can't have because my parents and grandparents are deceased and my aunts and uncles won't help out. Even if the aunts and uncles would do for my three kids what they did for me total while I was growing up, it would be helpful. And my uncle received 1/4 of my mom's estate when she died even though he is the richest person in our family and I was a minor child at the time, and he refused to give up any of my 1/2 of the estate (which he was in charge of) for my college education, so that my dad had to pay for it all, which was in direct violation of her will. Now I have never approached him and said he owed me or anything like that. I have always been respectful. Yet he says my children will just have to accept that they don't have grandparents and he has too much already with his seven grandchildren. They don't get it -- if my mom was alive I would never DREAM of bothering them. But since she's not, I can't afford to make up for all my children would have had from my mom, my dad, my grandparents (whom I admit would be 100 years old by now), etc. They are not spoiled or feel entitled to anything, which makes it all the more tragic that no one cares about them. I feel bad that our Christmases are such that we are forced to give them only traditions: going to get a real tree, decorating it Thanksgiving weekend, doing readings and advent calendar every night in December, and playing games together and watching movies on Christmas, with only a few presents and some of those clothes. My kids don't mind and love the traditions, but that's not the effing point. They would have a lot more if my parents were around. Anyone else successfully whipped their in-laws into shape to make things fair for all the grandchildren?  more

Free Holiday Photo Cards, What We’re Doing Differently This Year

One of my family’s favorite holiday traditions every year is to put together our holiday cards over Thanksgiving weekend.  Granted, my husband isn’t as in to the design process as I am, but he and my son help me pick out what photos we’re going to use. This year though, the thought of spending over $100 on our holiday cards seems a little indulgent considering our families are scaling back on gift-giving (we’re only giving gifts to the children).  At first, sending an ecard for our holiday c more

This Thanksgiving, families across the country will gather around the television just as quickly as they gather around the turkey. And with good reason: Many people will be staring at beautiful high-definition TV sets.
