Resolved Question: Will the Obama crime family but Al Capone's house?

For sale: Six-room two-flat in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood; ornate tile work; impressive brick exterior; an underground cellar big enough to hide some cash or ditch a tommy gun. The home at 7244 S. Prairie Ave. once owned by mobster Al Capone and his family has hit the market for $450,000. It's a hefty sum considering similar two-flats in that working-class South Side neighborhood are selling for $180,000 to $230,000. But no other home in Chicago can match the history of the modest brick house that has had just two owners since Capone's mother died in 1952. "I'm looking for people who would be interested in the historical value of this home," said Patrice Brazil, the Coldwell Banker agent who's listing it. "It's an excellent home, and it's in great shape." Records show the Capones bought the home for $5,500 in 1923 after moving from Brooklyn, N.Y., where Al Capone's notorious business interests began. Capone centered his bootlegging, gambling and prostitution enterprises in Cicero and later moved them to the old Lexington Hotel at Cermak Road and Michigan Avenue. But he was a frequent guest of his mother's, famously barricading himself inside one December night in 1927 when police threatened to arrest him.  more

Resolved Question: What hotel would you recommend?

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Manhattan. We have never been there and are hoping to stay there for 3-5 days. We are obviously not familiar with the island and we have two different hotel choices and are wondering which one is better located for touristic attractions. The choices are both Radisson hotels. One is the Radisson Martinique on Broadway (49 West 32nd Street ) and the other is the Radisson Lexington Hotel (511 Lexington Avenue) Which one would you recommend??? THANKS!!  more

Resolved Question: Better hotel: the Doubletree Metropolitan or the Radisson Lexington?

I am trying to decide which hotel to book a room with for a week or so. The Doubletree seems to have better reviews, and both are on Lexington which is a perfect location for my trip. Anybody know anything I don't know? Anyone stay in either, or both, and have a preference? They are both very reasonably priced right now, though the Radisson is a bit cheaper. My fate could be in your hands! :) Also, please, if you're going to comment and say that the hotel staff is rude... explain or give an example. I know that some people simply like to get their feet kissed and are never satisfied by any amount of customer service - I'm pretty easy to deal with and to please. Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Where can I find the cheapest deals on flight tickets, rental cars, and hotels?

I am planning on going to Lexington, KY to visit some colleges in that area. I want to depart on February 19th (next week Thursday) either in the morning, or mid-day. I live in Southern CT, so I've been basically checking out the flights that depart from NYC. However, I am willing to change my departure to get the cheapest tickets. My mother will be joining me on this trip. We will be returning on February 22nd (hoping for a morning flight). Now, the date is approaching, and I am having difficulty finding 2 cheap flight tickets, a rental car, and hotel for cheap. I have been looking at 1 stop flights. However, I do not want my trip duration to go over 4 hours (flight, and layover time together). Priceline.com has a package deal for the 2 tickets and a rental car, but they do not include the time of the flight. It simply says anytime between 6am-10pm. I'm thinking it's not the best idea to buy something like that. I am hoping to buy 2 tickets that do not exceed $900 when tax + fees are figured in, because I still would need to book a hotel, and get a rental car. So, can you help?  more

Resolved Question: How much would a trip to New York City for three cost?

How much would it cost for about three people to drive from Lexington, KY to New York, NY for about 4 days? Should we stay in a hotel outside of the city and take the train in every day? What about food, something cheap but good. If I could get some rough estimates on these costs and maybe anything I've overlooked that would be TERRIFIC!  more

Resolved Question: What should a 13 going on 14 year old girl do for her birthday?

She wants to do something fun, but with just 5 of her friends. No party. It's winter so swimming and that kind of stuff is out. She wanted to go out of town and stay the night at a murder mystery hotel, but the price was wayyyyyyy out of her range. She still would like to go out of town and stay at a hotel if she can do something on top of that without it being too expensive. Hopefully something in the Lexington, Kentucky area up to the Gatlinburg, Tennessee area. Any ideas? Anything will help! Thanks ;)  more

Resolved Question: Is there an age restriction on buying five hour energy?

ok i was at the griffin gate marriott in lexington, ky for a convention. part of it involves a spirit contest (which is basically screaming your head off for 15 minutes straight) i went to the hotel shop and looked around. they had no energy drinks visible, so i asked if they had five hour energy behind the counter. the lady at the counter said you had to be 18 to buy it. I just left it at that and continued on, not wanting to cause trouble. However, where i live in louisville, there seems to be no age restriction. is this a munincipal law, national law, or hotel policy? I would like to know for future knowledge!! thanks and i appreciate your help!  more

Resolved Question: How would a traffic-free urban playground, go over in Chicago?

NYC Experiments With Traffic-Free Urban Playground NEW YORK - In Paris, they call it La Plage, or the beach. And in Bogota, Colombia, it's Ciclovia, or bikeway. For six hours Saturday in New York, it was called Summer Streets: Nearly seven miles of Manhattan that were stripped of traffic, creating a weekend playground for bikers, walkers and loungers. "Bellissimo!" declared Antonio de Lucia, a tourist from Caserta, Italy, who read about the event and decided to walk about three miles from his Chinatown hotel to a friend's Times Square restaurant — with more than 90 pounds of luggage. An hour into his hike, he was smiling as he sauntered up a stretch of Park Avenue awash in cyclists, pedestrians and in-line skaters. One man on a bicycle swooped down a sloped section of the avenue yelling "whee!" at full voice. "It's a moment of truth for this city. People are participating — New Yorkers are united with their city," said de Lucia, a 29-year-old business consultant. Bike-loving celebrities Lance Armstrong and David Byrne are helping Mayor Michael Bloomberg launch the experiment. It emulates similar initiatives in cities around the world in aiming to create a livable, ecologically gentle urban environment. The 6.9-mile, car-free route started at the Brooklyn Bridge and ended to the north at East 72nd Street, with links to Central Park and other open spaces. It included stretches of Park and Lexington avenues and is set to be repeated for the next two Saturdays, starting at 7 a.m. The idea is simple, in the words of the city's official Web site: "Play. Run. Walk. Bike. Breathe." Fitness, dance and yoga classes were offered at a central stage along the route, with additional exercise and health activities hosted by community groups at certain cross streets. Bike rental facilities were available along the route, including learn-to-ride lessons for adults. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080809/ap_on_re_us/summer_streets;_ylt=Alhg9uqWOMQDAD.DzeBFu80DW7oF  more

Resolved Question: Visiting Yankees stadium for the first time?

Hi there, It’s short notice, but I’m hoping that someone could help me out with a few answers to regarding my upcoming visit to New York. Even though I’m from Australia I’ve been a fan of the Yankees since I was a kid back in the mid 60’s, ever since I first sighted the Old Gary Cooper film ‘Pride of the Yankees’. Back in those days nobody but nobody followed American sports down under, and baseball games never showed up on TV with any regularity until the 80’s, and even then it was usually only the World series that got televised. One way or the other though I’ve always remained a fan of the team, mainly through the papers and magazines, until cable came along and made it much easier to watch games during the season. The advent of the internet also helped to keep up to date. I’ve been a fan now for 40 years, and my one big desire has always been to actually see the Yanks play on their hollowed turf in the Bronx. With the news that they were going to tear down the stadium after the 2008 season I thought my chance had finally gone of ever visiting the ‘house that Ruth built’. Well lo and behold my wife came to the rescue recently by presenting me with airline tickets to New York and a match day ticket for my 49th birthday, so I’m finally on my way! Can you believe it – this will not only be the first time I’ll actually get to see the Yankees play live – at their home stadium – it will actually be the very first MLB game I’ve ever attended. 40 years of being a long distance fan, and I’m finally going to be there! So there’s my history. Now I have some questions that need answering, and I’m hoping that someone can find the time to possibly help out. 1)How early does Yankee Stadium open on game day? I’m actually going to be in town for the Saturday game against the Royals, and would dearly like to find the time to see Monument Park before the game starts. It’s my understanding that it stays open to the public until 45 minutes before the game is due to start. Which way do I need to head once I’m in through the main entrance of the stadium to get to Monument Park? My ticket is in section M6, so I’m going to have to work up and right around the stadium to eventually get to my seat. 2)I’m going to be visiting Central Park during the morning on Saturday, and am aiming to get to the stadium from the Subway station on Lexington and 86th. Which platform do I need to go to, and is half an hour sufficient time to allow for the trip? 3)I’m leaving from La Guardia airport straight after the game. I’ve read a couple of different ways to get there from the stadium. One opinion states that the best way to get to the airport is to catch a train to Grand Central and then hop on the NY Airport Service bus to La Guardia. The other view states that the best way is to simply head a couple of stops away from the stadium to the subway station at Lexington/125th and take the M60 bus to the airport. Any views on the matter? 4)Given where I’m going to be sitting, is the net going to make it a pain to take photographs of the on field action? Like I said, I’ve never been to a game before, so I don’t know what to expect. 5)Some general tourist questions. I traveled through NY in 1981 when the city was probably at its worst safety wise – in winter by the way, which explains why I didn’t try and see the Yanks play back then. I know things have changed dramatically since then, but how much safer is it in reality? I’m planning on spending Friday morning at Battery Park, from where I’ll gradually work my way up Manhattan during the day to the Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s by 7 or 8 – the latter closes at 8.30. From there I plan on hopping on the subway and making my way over to my hotel in the Bronx – is the subway safe at that time of the evening? Any thoughts or answers to the questions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance  more

Resolved Question: Where should we stay in Lexington, Kentucky?

I am a senior in high school, and will be attending UK next year. Usually when I visit down there, I am with my parents, so we stay at the Hilton Suites Lexington Green. But, I am going down with about 6-7 girls for my birthday weekend to go to a charity walk, and to Keeneland. The problem is, I want all my friends to come along, but I feel bad for making my parents pay 400-500 for a hotel room for two nights. Any suggestions? The reason I don't want to make them all pay, is they all would have to probably pay for it, not their parents..and this is 2 weekends away, so I'm afraid they won't have time, and won't come.  more

Resolved Question: Why is it easier for me to meet women in some areas but very hard where I live?

-I lived in Cincinnati for only 5 weeks. I had like 5 girls there crushing on me at the same time. They said they liked my "cute curly hair and blue eyes," "smarts," dry wit humor, slight drawl, personality. -I was in San Antonio in '01. A random pretty girl smiled, gave me eye contact, and waved at me on the Riverwalk! WOW! -I was in Atlanta in March '07: a. The FIRST day in ATL, this, uhhh...well-endowed college girl behind a hotel counter was very cold, at first. I smiled, was polite, got to talking her a bit, and she winked at me when I left. b. One of the prettiest women I've met was a college-aged Hispanic shoe store clerk in Buckhead. I was dressed nicely that day; she walked up to me, asked me how I was doing, and we just started talking about where we live, work, why I was visiting ATL. I live in Kentucky. I'm a pleasant guy, polite, but girls here DO NOT like to give out their phone #s except to dumb @$$, uneducated redneck hick jerks, even in Louisville & Lexington. I'm a decent-looking guy, too--not to be conceited. Tall, dark, I don't think I'm handsome, but I'm not fat. I have dark curly hair with slight traces of gray. Almost have my Bachelor's degree, have done several internships with both the executive and legislative branches of Kentucky state government. You're right, L'ville girls are a little bit better. More parts of SW and SE L'ville fare well; the E-side depends on the neighborhood, some nice, some snooty. I'm sorry, GO CARDS!  more

Resolved Question: Interviewing in Manhattan next week. Excited and nervous about the move from San Diego to NY if I get offer?

Weather is not in question. I worked in DC and commuted by metro - is there any comparison to DC and NY subway system? I was planning to get from La Guardia airport to my hotel on Lexington and 51st by subway but was told NOT to my "1st" time. Any anwsers as far as where to live would be great. I am less of city person and more of suburb type, only because I'm a light sleeper and have a dog so love the greenery. I also can't seem to get my mind around taking the subway to Target opposed to driving or grocery shopping everyday opposed to bulk. I'm excited because it's NY and I've heard so many good things about the culture, entertainment, and people. Nervous at the same time because I've heard so many negative things about NY about the commute, people, etc. 2K max rent and prefer living alone. Astoria & Brooklyn; Yonkers and parts of Westchester like Elmsford, Pomona, New Rochelle & Nanuet. No more than 1hr commute time. hi/md rise opposed to brownstone. quiet at night... I've heard and read why I should not move to NY... Besides areas to live, I want New Yorkers to tell me the positives of living in NY :) Sorry... I'm not opposed to Brownstones... mid/hi-rise vs brownstones... If made an offer, I would be working near 51st and Lexington (I think that's considered Midtown)  more
